So at the Local club Warlord Games Hail Ceasar seems to be popular for the Ancients and Historical gaming. With this in mind I have purchased some of the Warlord Games Romans to start a Roman HC Army.

These come in a combination of Plastic and Metal models. The plastic figures seem to have less flash and less preperation work is required for these. The metal figures however have more flash and require a fair amount of prep work before base spraying, but they do have finer details.

Which do I prefer well the Plastic due to being plain lazy when it comes to prep work.

Well I shall base my Army on the Legio IX Hispania from the Simon Scarrow Books.

These are led by a Legate called Geta.

So my forces will consist of the following.

General - Mounted (there to make up the numbers for commanders)
Legate - Mounted
Prefect - Foot
I Cohort
32 x Veterans
II Cohort
16 x Legionaries
16 x Legionaries
16 x Legionaries

Light Skirmish Cavalry
6 x Numidians

8 x Slingers

16 x Western Archers

War Machines

Hope you enjoy and next update will be a few weeks for these Romans.

Modern Afghan 28mm for Force on Force

Ok so this is about some Modern gaming figures I saw a fellow gamer using at a local show at Broughton Airbus ran by Deeside Defenders who hold annual gaming event. These figures were made by Empress Miniatures and looked really nice. If anyone is interested in Modern Gaming in 28mm then I highly recommend these figures.

I have purchased quite a few of these figures and have started to assemble my Insurgent/Taliban force.

These are a selection of a few of the Models I have completed to date.

as you can see I have a few more to do and I also have a nice idea for a scenario to run at my local club one evening. I will update you with more pictures as they become available.

Models Purchased 2012 - 110
Models Painted 2012 - 38
Models aim to paint for 2012 - 298 (lets see if I can achieve this that is an average of 24 models per month)

Bolt Action Rules of Engagement. British Red Devils

Boxed set of Red Devils from Bolt Action Miniatures which I picked up a while ago. A couple of WiP shots and a few pics from a game I had with Luke using his Germansat the RGMB, Chester.

Picturea above are of 2 squads, Piat Team and Command Team.

Lukes German Grenadier Force
Now how have the few games we have played gone, well mainly the way of the Red Devils. We are still learning the rules which are many but appear quite simple and straight forward to follow. Well I have a few more Red Devils to paint up.

Trollblood Units....

This are the units I currently own for the Trollblood Hordes force, and how I feel they can be used with the casters I have available.

Stonebearer and Scribes or better known as KSB

These will probably be a staple addition to all my forces and will have another 2 scribes and the Elder added to make a full unit. This should also add to the effective range from the stone buffs.

Long Riders (Full Unit)

These bad boys are to be painted and completed, hopefully next time you see them, they may have some more paint on them.

The way I see myself using these is with Grissel especially in Scenario play. First turn with Hoof it from her fell call they can move 21" making them a very good denial unit. Also they are Multiwound and hard hitting. Add Hrothol in and they become even more so with Bull Rush and follow up.

These go without saying, Multi-wound medium based, 2 attacks and weaponmaster to top it off. These are also a staple inclusion into most of my forces.

Grissel - Hoff it and War cry give these the extra mobility and an extra attack from weaponmaster.
the other casters still to figure these out.

Pygmie Burrowers

I have got these to go with EMadrak for the single wound unit. Whelps will also be used in this role.

I have got these as an Infantry clearance unit with the POW14 3" AOE's.

Put in mind I am new to Hordes and Trolls. And don't you hate it when the spray can runs out as you can see from the champs. I had planned on spraying the other 3 units as well.

Hopefully this Tuesday I will see the first outing for EMadrak at 35points.

Maybe have a BatRep with some pics by then....

Casters and Beasts to the fore....

So I have indulged in a few more purchases and my repertoire of casters has increased to Grim Angus, EMadrak and not forgetting Grissel.
This gives me more options with how to use the Trolls. I have only used Grissel thus far and she enables the Trolls to be very mobile. She needs to be used from the back of the Low Def/High Arm Trolls to benefit them as she is most definately a support caster.
Grim and EMadrak are still to be used.

The beasts I have to use are the
Earthborn Dire Troll
Mauler Dire Troll
Mulg the Ancient (still to be assembled)
The idea of the Bouncer is to pair him with either Grissel to give her some extra protection or with Mulg or Earthborn to offer anti charge protection from his animus.
Impaler for some ranged Threat and Crit KD??? think that is right.

Units to come over the next week or so......

Hordes Trollblood emerge.....

Well to start things off I got fed up of Cygnar and sold all the Models via Ebay. With the proceeds from the sale of the Cygnarian figures comes the emergence of the Trollbloods.

My initial 35points consists along the lines of these models.

Grissel Bloodsong

Earthborn Dire Troll
to be purchased

Kriel Sronebearer and Scribes with UA

Scribes and elder still to be painted. You can just see the scribes to the left of the pictures.
Long Riders (unit of 5)
Champions (unit of 5)
These are built but still to be put onto the painting table.
Fellcaller hero.
Still to arrive from Maelstrom Games.
More updates as the painting is completed and games begin.

Evercy-Caen Road - Hill 112 Second Assault.

The British forces combined of the 7th Armoured Desert Rats and 1st Special Service Brigade had been charged by Monty to take Hill 112 at all costs.
The Advances of the British had previoulsy been stunted by the German SS Panzer Divisions.
The Germans Setup

The Hated 88's.

The Germans Artillery.

The equally hated Tiger 1E.

The British Set up
British Commanders overview of the pitiful Germans defending Hill 112.

Elements of the 7th Armoured Desert Rats, would they live up to the reputation?

X & Y troop of 41 RM commando readying the fairbank Sykes Knifes for the Assault.

Turn 1
British Advance towards the German Lines, the Naval Spotter pegged it backwards to get a better position for Naval Gun Support. The 25 pounders lay down smoke covering the right side of the British advance temporary reprieve of being targeted.
German reserves 1 unit turns up from the start a Tiger 1E platoon makes an Appearance.
German air support is called and is surprise surprise shot down by the British RAF (Hurrah the giant pot of Tea was still brewing). Some jostling for positioning for clear LOS for shots at the dreaded Sherman firefly and M10C 17 pounder Tank Hunters. No Casualties resulted from this initial encounter.
Turn 2
Further Advances made by the Armour and Infantry of the British, the commando units had managed to get to within range to shoot and assault on the next turn. The Fireflys and M10C's had no luck punching through the thick armour of the Tiger 1E's.
Artillery called in on the German 88's and BOOM went one to Joyous cries of the advancing armour.
German reserves failed to find the way to Hill 112 claiming that the bloody woman was doing the map reading. Panzer IV's appeared from Ambush taking on a much hated Firefly and Sherman Platoon causing 3 to bail out.
Tiger 1E's opened fire on the 7th Armoured inflicting a few casualties in the Armour. An Artillery barrage called down on the M10 Tank hunters causing 1 Casualty.
Turn 3
The British further advanced within striking range of taking one heavily defended objective.
NGFS Observer for the Naval Guns had found an advantageous position and called down fire onto a Tiger with the Germans suffering their second Loss of the Formidable Tiger 1E.
The cromwell platoon of the 7th Armoured advanced onto the german Artillery causing mayhem and panic by destroying 3 of the heavy guns. Artillery and Mortar strikes called down on the remaining 88 and went BOOM with the remaining spotter and command doing a runner. The Infantry at last saw some action firing and assaulting the Pioneers clearing the trenches and taking the prepared positions.
Germans rolled for reserves and the remaining tiger units entered play.
Stuka support called and duely intercepted by the RAF (clearly they were on orders from on up high) The panzer IV and Tigers on the right decided to attempt to make the Sherman Platoon on the german left pay and duely destroyed 2 tanks and bailed one(but not the much loathed Firefly) Wittman decided to spring his Ambush on the Marauding Cromwells and blew them to Timbuktoo. The remaining M10C was targeted by another platoon of Tigers and sent to the graveyard. Several 7th Armoured platoons took casualties but morale held out and stayed the course so far. Tiger 1E fell victim to sa counter charge from the X troop of 41 Commandos.
Turn 4
RAF called for and turned up with 2 planes to target some Tigers. Instead they decided to go sight seeing over Calais. Armour and infantry moved into assaulting positions in several places in an attempt to overwhelm the german defenses on the Objective. The SS divisions managed to fend of the attack sending the 7th Armoured packing withdrawing from the field after losing its Commander and Platoon. It was left to the Infantry to try and Arty to try and salvage the Mission.
German reserves turned up in full. Stuka support called and duely shot down.
the reamining Artillery battery took some pot shots at the Infantry massing in the middle of the board causing several casualties. Some more jostling for position on the table by the Panzers and Tigers was carrried out.
Turn 5
IT ALL WENT SO WRONG FOR THE BRITISH. The commandos assaulted the Tigers with 2 the remains of 2 platoons being wiped out by defensive machine gun fire. The Naval guns bailed one Tiger just before the assualt.
END game for the British as they had nothing left to take out the remaining tigers and both Objectives were well covered.
British Losses - Lost Count
German Losses -
88 Battery
3 Arty Heavy guns
4 Tiger 1E's (out of 10)
1 Panzer IV
German Stunning Victory
British VP's 4
German VP's 10
Monty has ordered the 7th Armoured to grow some backbone and are to circumnavigate Hill 112 surrounding the stronghold and cutting off the German forces.
